She is a founding member of The American Red Cross Tiffany Circle and American Heart Association’s Circle Of Red and Co-chairs the 2013/14 Go Red campaign.

Tara has for many years been a dedicated supporter of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), serving on the WBENC Board of Directors and as Chair of the WBENC Women’s Enterprise Leadership Forum.  She was appointed in 2011 to the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC) to serve a three-year term representing WBENC. The NWBC is a nonpartisan federal advisory council created to serve as an independent source of advice and policy recommendations to the President, Congress, and the U.S. Small Business Administration on economic issues of importance to women business owners.

Tara’s entrepreneurial drive was sparked 16 years ago, when, as a merchant at Bath & Body Works, she couldn’t find a packaging company to meet her exacting standards for quality and timely delivery.   She founded Accel, Inc to meet those standards and grew the contract packaging leader from a tiny 1,200 square foot studio to an award-winning company serving major companies in the personal care and beauty, pharmaceutical and health care, and food and beverages sectors. In 2011, Accel moved to a new 517,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, LEED-certified facility that is the anchor of the New Albany Business Park East, immediately adding 400 jobs to the area.

Accel’s commitment to unsurpassed quality and creative problem solving has resulted in numerous awards including: the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2000; Limitedbrands Logistics Services Direct Ship Vendor Excellence Award in 2009 in recognition of outstanding customer service and commitment; eight Fast Fifty Awards, given to the fastest growing companies in Central Ohio.

Tara’s excellence as a business owner was recognized by WBENC when she was named a WBE Star in 2007. On the occasion of WBENC’s 15th Anniversary, Accel is Co-Chair of the WBENC 2012 National Conference & Business Fair.  Accel Co-Chaired the event in 2008.

She has also developed diversity best practices at Accel.   In 2011, Tara won the Ohio Diversity Council Ohio’s Most Powerful and Influential Women Award. The company was named to the Top 500 Diversity Owned Businesses in the U.S. in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009 by Diversity Business and recently won a 2010 Columbus Business First Corporate Caring Award.  Additionally, Accel received Limitedbrands’ 2009 Partners in Supplier Diversity Award, 2009 Direct Ship Excellence Award and 2007 Championing Diversity and Supplier Excellence Award.
