Lewis began his career with Smoot Construction in 1980 following a tour of duty with the United States Navy where he served as Senior Corpsman for the Neonatology Unit.  During his tenure with the firm, he has held positions of increasing responsibility including Laborer, Estimator, Project Manager, Administrative Manager and Vice President.  In 2011 he was promoted to Senior Vice President and currently provides direction and leadership for several corporate initiatives including business strategy and administration, information technology and computer operations, safety, budgeting and capital expenditures management, general business policies and procedures, community and public relations, and E.E.O.  He also serves as Project Executive on water and wastewater projects.  He was appointed to The Smoot Corporation Board of Directors in 2005.

Lewis is a representative on The Smoot Corporation Executive Committee, which provides leadership and business consistency corporate-wide to company operations, ensuring the company’s legacy, and promoting professional development and technological advancement.  Additionally he provides corporate-wide leadership and guidance for implementing continuous improvement initiatives and achieving annual business goals.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, he is active with several professional and civic organizations including CAPA (Capital Area Performing Arts) Board of Directors, The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s Associate Board of Directors, The Foundation Board for Columbus State Community College (having served two terms as Board President) and chairing the “Support What Works” campaign, and The Builders’ Exchange of Central Ohio.  Additionally, he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from The Association of Community Colleges.

Lewis attended The Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology.  He also holds two Associate Degrees of Applied Science in Construction Management and Finance from Columbus State Community College.  His post-graduate education includes the Executive Development Program at The Ohio State University’s Max M. Fisher College of Business.
